Does catnip affect big cats like lions and tigers?
I thought about taking a catnip toy to the zoo to see what happens.
Hi James…yes catnip affects most of big cats just the same. All of the cats I help to take care of (e.g. cougars, bobcats, servals, jagarundis, etc) particularly love the fresh grown variety more as it is more potent than the dried flowers. The roll around on top of the sprigs we give them daily. It’s quite sweet to watch them get intoxicated on the catnip.

I do know it attracts Bobcats and if you take any get the fresh leaves it works better.

lol, that woudl be fun I’d be very curious to find out. Yo may need a catnip plant for that, even for my kitty their seemed to be no response to catnip, but when I got a fresh batch or plants, they went wild.

lol!! Ya, it makes them want to gnaw on your whole arm instead of just your finger!
You made me curious, so I just googled catnip lions and there are a lot of hits. Most say, lions yes. Tigers, no. Pumas, leopards, yes, yes. (etc)
