Is it appropriate to give a kitten that’s only a few weeks old catnip?

I was wondering if cats should be a certain age before you give it catnip. Can it harm a young kitten thats only a few weeks old. My mom tried putting catnip scratch pad, but it didn’t work out becouse the older kitten was slapping the young kitten with her paws. I guess catnip does wierd things to cats and kittens. Good think she didn’t have claws though. Should I seperate the two cats in seperate rooms so they don’t fight over it and give them their own catnip. I think catnip is the ulimate cat toy ever becouse they love it and they get high off of it.

Cat nip will not harm your kitty. Catnip affects different cats in different ways, but it is not harmful to them. Chances are that a kitten would not have much reaction to catnip as it is not mature enough yet to have the sensors in its brain be developed enough to be reactive to the catnip. Have fun with your kitties and let them play together as much as you can.

It really won’t matter – most cats under the age of 6 months don’t respond to cat nip at all.

Kittens will not show the behavior until they are at least 6-8 weeks old. In fact, catnip produces an avoidance response in young kittens. The catnip response usually develops by the time a kitten is 3 months old.

its an aprodesiac and so kittens are hyper already they dont need sex so use the powder or ground on the food of the adult and feed them a few minutes apart and train the little one to find he’s food in another place in the kitchen and occupy the adult one while he eats

why do you want to give it catnip? You didn’t say how old the kitten was. I’d wait until it was about 2 months old. If you’re trying to getthe cat and kitten to play together; what i’ve found usually works- is putting butter or margarine on the smaller cat’s head- and the bigger one will lick it off. As for what it does to cats/kittens..they’re all different. Some times my cat wants to play; sometimes he just lays there and acts stoned.

Very young kittens may show curiousity about catnip, but are unaffected by it. To prevent fights over catnip, at my house, I put down a sheet of newpaper for each cat, and give each cat their own pile of catnip. Maybe getting the kitten her own catnip pad would keep her occupied. Cats get possessive of their catnip. LOL

Angel at 5 weeks – didn’t go near the catnip sock until she was 7 weeks old. It differs with all kittens.
