We bought a new toy for the kittens that has catnip in it?
The turn 4 weeks old Tuesday and when they climb on it and when they get off they seem to go a little crazy. I took it out for now till I know I can leave it in there with no probelm. Your thoughts?
Catnip is perfectly safe for cats and kittens, there is something "aromatic" about it that makes cats really frisky. I think everyone who has a cat should have something with catnip in it, with my cat it always made him mellow.

Yep, that’s what catnip does to cats. Often it doesn’t have any effect on kittens though, but it sounds like your little ones are feeling the effects of it already. Can’t really hurt them to keep the toy with them, but continual exposure can lessen the effects….kinda like how you might not get a buzz from caffeine if you drink it all day long.
It’s best to store catnip toys in a closed container, so they stay fresh, and only give them to your kitties occasionally, like once a day, tops. That way they can still feel the loopy fun effects from it.
I find our cats get aggressive when we give them catnip toys, so we rarely give them to the cats anymore.

Cats don’t develop a want for catnip till they are 6 months old. It’s perfectly safe for cats and they love it.

here’s a link to a fact sheet about catnip
kittens under 6 months of age almost never react to catnip:
http://www.catniptoys.com/nip_faq.htm
however this site will tell you how much catnip is safe, how often you may use catnip effectively, and how to keep catnip fresh (it can go stale)

They love cat nip and it is supposed to fire them up. Let them have it. It’s a good thing.
