whens a good age to give your kitty catnip?

i just got an 8 week old kitten, and me and my familyy dont know when its okay to give her catnip. if your wondering we only want to give her a toy with catnip in it, not just plain old catnip to eat or anything. (: thhaaannnkss!

the vets say 6-8 months…catnip is to make older cats act like kittens, and aid in digestion.
It won’t make much difference until they’re older, and kittens don’t seem to take to it until older.

catnip in toys will not hurt the kitten it’s made for them, it’s harmless unless you want it to be chill lol! have fun with the kitten, make sure it doesn’t eat it though.

They can have catnip right away, if it is in a toy it will be fine, ours have had catnip pillows in their beds since they were 4 weeks old, we rescued them and they were always fine with it, although i dont think younger cats go quite as crazy over it as the older ones!

Kittens don’t usually respond to catnip. They may play with the toy, but it’s not the catnip that makes them want to play with it.

An older cat is the one that reacts to the odor of catnip. They’ll toss the toy around, cuddle it, get real frisky, then…….lie down for a nap!

Get your kitten some of the soft rubber or flannel balls to play with. She can catch her claws in the material and toss them around. You can also MAKE her a toy by getting a heavy (athletic) sock, tying it in a knot, then toss it on the floor for her. She’ll "attack" it, like prey!

Then, when she’s older………she’ll have fun with a catnip toy. Or, you can get some catnip spray and spray it on the toys she already has, at that time.

Hope this answers your question adequately…….Enjoy your baby!!
BTW……don’t forget to start on her vaccinations….soon, if not already!
