why do cats love catnip toy’s?
also what will happen if i try take it away from him
also how long does the effect last?
Catnip is the common name for a perennial herb of the mint family also known as catmint, Catrup, & Catwort and most kittys love it.
Some kittys though are totally unaffected by cat nip.
Catnip causes kittys to become very playful, sometimes they can be a little rough so be careful when giving it to them. When given to a kitty, you will probably find they will roll in it, eat it, lick it, and just going totally mad over it. And when they are fed up with it, they will just walk away from it totally normal. Even large cat’s such as tigers can be sensitive to it as well
Cat nip is very easy to buy, and you can get it from most pet shops, it is available to buy fresh in boxes or bags, you can buy cat nip toys, but cat nip tends to go stale quite quickly so you will probably find that toys aren’t as effective as fresh catnip is. You can buy catnip spray, which can then be used to spray on scratching posts to encourage kitty to scratch that rather than your sofa hehe You can also buy catnip treats for your kitty to eat and even catnip bubbles ! You could even try growing your own cat nip.

It is also interesting to note that there is no clear answer to WHY cats love catnip. And definitely not all cats are susceptible to it. There is a hypothesis that a chemical in the plant mimics a cat pheromone but the ability to detect it might be hereditary and also age related. Once a cat loses interest in the catnip, it will take a couple of hours to "reset" and have the same initial reaction.
My cat couldn’t care less about the stuff. But I have also had a couple of cats that went nuts for it.
