Can you take catnip through airport customs?

I’m travelling to the US next week, and near where we’re staying there’s a cute pet boutique. if I bring my cat back some toys containing catnip will this cause issue at customs?

Catnip is fine, but like anything you bring onto the plane there are the usual security procedures. You want them to be able to make sure there isn’t anything hidden in the catnip, so make sure to take it out of it’s original packaging and put it into a clear plastic bag, like a ziplock bag. Maybe put something in there to absorb moisture since it’s not in its original container. Rolling papers work really well, the glue on them is really effective at attracting moisture.

No. Catnip isn’t classified as a drug. The only potential issue you MAY run into is that it is an herb, and importing plants and the like have to go through customs.

In reality, you should have absolutely no problem unless you are bringing a huge amount of the stuff.

    Happy cats!

If it is just catnip it should be fine, dried herbs/spices are allowed through customs and if they ask you can tell them the truth. Some of the airports have drug-sniffing dogs who would hit on any illegal drugs. There are pet stores here in the US that sell catnip-stuffed toys for cats.
