Is it OK for me to make my cats toys and such or should I spend the money and buy them.?
I have 13 other animals (small farm, I know) and between feed, meds, housing and basic uptake, it gets expensive. I buy my dog bones and such, horses get bread treats and "jolly balls" rabbits get treats but don’t care for toys, and birds get toys especially designed for them but I made a scratch post for my cats and have thought of some other toys I could make for the cats without spending a lot of money. As long as they are happy and enjoy playing with what I make and it is safe for them, should I worry about buying them the expensive toys and kitty habitats, post and such things from petco and petsmart.
Sure you can…just make sure there is nothing small that may fall off and possibly choke the cat.
In the past I have spent all kinds of $ on cat condos, scratching posts, toys etc and my cats would rarely play with them. Wasted money.
My cat now, her favorite toy is the round ring that you pull off of milk gallon lids. She hears me opening a new gallon of milk and comes running. She also likes to play with straws. No sense in me buying her expensive cat toys if all she wants to play with is garbage basically.

You shouldnt be surprised to learn that cats actually prefer homemade toys. They are smart and quick, and love nothing better than chasing a feather, or you can put an old piece of fur ( I found a rabbits tail in the field) onto a piece of elastic, tied to a stick, that’s my cats favourite. Old paper bags are also a treat, cardboard boxes, If you find it interesting, then your cat probably will to. Sometimes I find great stuff in craft stores, to tie to sticks for my cat to chase, I enjoy it as much as my cat does.

Cats will play with almost anything that moves. It doesn’t have to be a cat toy – just make sure that it’s not small enough for them to eat, and that there’s nothing loose on it that can come off.
Plastic pop caps, rings from milk jugs, wrapping paper, a box, a paper bag, etc.
The only specific cat toys mine like are the little fuzzy mice which are really cheap, but they usually only last 5 minutes before they’re under the couch or the stove.
