Is their any homemade cat toys I could make?

I want to give my cat new toys, but I think it would be really fun to make cat toys. Is their anything I could make for my cat?

One of the easiest and most fun for cats is……take a heavy (athletic) sock, tie it in a knot and let her "cuddle" with it, or toss it across the floor for him/her to chase. The cat will ATTACK it, like "prey".

Another one……take the drawstring belt (not STRING) out of an old pair of sweatpants and tie something (old belled collar, etc) to one end. Tie something else to the other end, and the cat can drag it around………while the bell jingles. My cats have played with one of these for years. If you tie a soft toy to one end, and spray it with catnip, the cat will loooooove it!

I also take a fly swatter and "swish" it from side to side across the floor. The cats will chase this back and forth until ( I ) get tired. Then, I’ll toss it across the room and they’ll chase after it.

You don’t say how old (big) your cat is, but…….I have a "tunnel" that my cats love to run through. This is made by getting a "concrete FORM" from Home Depot (4 ft long ), gluing some carpet remnant around it (if you want it to double as a scratching object ) and fixing it up on a "brace", so it doesn’t roll across the floor. This can be made by making a l_l out of wood, or an X…..anything to keep it from rolling.

These are just a few of the things that my (12) cats love to play with.

Hope you get some good ideas from everyone…..Good luck.

    string is a cat’s best friend :)

i recomend buying some catnip and then sewing some fabric together and stuffing it, then adding the catnip and finish sewing. then you have a little doll with catnip

My mom did this for her cats, she cut up a couple of rag dolls and cut the legs, arms and head off then sewed the ends so the cotton/filling would not scatter every wheres. and her cats are always playing with them, and they don’t make any noise. I suppose you can do the same thing if you know how to sew.

The thing my cat loves to play with the most; my hand. Yes, it might sound strange, but as soon as he sees my hands, whether I’m purposely teasing him or typing on the computer, he jumps at them playfully. My cat also really loves to play with Aluminium foil, and most cats enjoy this too as it is easy for them to chase and play with. Watch out that he doesn’t eat the foil as my cat did this once by accident and ended up puking all over the carpet! xD
A homemade toy I suggest it just tying something your cat likes to play with to the end of a string, and hang it somewhere; my cat goes crazy for this! All I can say though, is be creative, as not all cats are the same! =)

    Hope I helped.

String can be very dangerous for cats actually. My vet told me she has treated several cats that ate string or thread and it ties their intestines up in knots inside them, requiring surgery if you have a vet smart enough to figure it out. It doesn’t generally show on x-rays and stuff. Some of the cats die and then they discover the problem by doing autopsy. Never leave cats unattended with strings, better yet, just don’t let them have any.

No string. I heard my cat munching on something and looked, and the string was hanging out of his mouth. Luckily I was able to pull it out. They will gobble down string. My cat loves a hair tie (white only) and balled up pieces of paper. Make sure the paper is too big for them to swallow. He loves hitting it under the couch and on the kitchen floor. So, those are the two that my cat loves to play with.

Many of things. Like toy balls- all you need a pattern of a circle, fabric, stuffing and catnip with a ball.
Fishing wand type thing- feathers on the end of a pole type toy.
Catnip toy pillows-the kind you get from the dollar store.

Really you think like a cat and figure out what they would play with.
