Why do cats deposit their toys in shoes?
I have had my first large pets for about five months now. One is a 9 month old kitten, and the other is her great grandmother who is 6 years old. Every so often they will place their toys, balled up pieces of paper, or even keys inside my shoes. On a few occasions, I have found toys inside coffee mugs sitting on the counter top. It really isn’t a bother. In fact, it is quite precious. A few of my friends’ kitties do this as well. Why do cats like to deposit things into shoes?
Not all cats are like yours my one doesn’t deposit toys in shoes, in fact he shows no interest in toys what so ever.
Don’t generalize.

Because they think it is hilarious when you step into them! Cats are such cards.

My cats do this too! It is like they are bringing you a gift to show their appreciation, trust and gratitude. I have known outdoor cats to bring in dead mice and deposit them in shoes and on pillows! A stuffed mouse seems much more pleasant-lol.

They do it as a sign of affection, like bringing you a present. Watch out if you let your cat outside, though he might kill a small animal and place it in your shoe.

They are showing you they love you. It is very hard for a cat to give up things, so giving a toy or small animal is showing that they love you!!! It is their way of showing you how loyal and appreative they are to you. Many cats do this, and it is sad for them when you toss the gift aside and HORRIBLE if you scold them for it. I would give them affection and snuggle with them if they do this. I hope this helps. ps I <3 KITTYS!!!!

There is a theory about why cats and dogs tear up their humans’ shoes – the thinking is that because the shoes smell so much of us, the animal thinks we are somehow stuck in there, and they dig or chew on it to help us get out. If that’s true, then cats must deposit toys in those shoes to give us something to play with while they figure out how to set us free.
Yeah, I’m not sure I buy that.
But my female cat sure is obsessed with my boyfriend’s shoes. One day he and I went a big festival. After walking around for half an hour, he complained that he had to sit down and take his hiking boots off. When he did, he found a toy mouse in the toe of one boot. No wonder he didn’t feel good walking, eh?
