Why do my cats (2 of them) both put their toys in their water bowl?
I have a 1-1/2 year old neutered Siamese, and an 11 year old, spayed domestic short hair. They both put their favorite toys in their water and food bowls. Why do they do this? I know this isn’t a life or death situation. I’m just curious as to why they do this regularly?
Also, why does the female cat walk around with her favorite toy in her mouth and make odd meow sounds? She only does this right before she goes to sleep.
Thanks for your help!
They are mimicking their hunting inctsincts. Mine do the same thing and for a change of pace I put a few ice cubes in the water dish. They like dunking the ice!
As for the toy–maybe she wants it handy when she decides to start playing in the middle of the nigtht!!?
I love cats for your reasons and others..they are their own beings and offer hours of entertainment.
I like back ground noise as I live alone and have just figured out my black cat stops what he is doing to watch "America’s Funniest Home Videos" & "Ellen DeGeneress" otherwise he doesn’t usually "watch" tv!!

Honestly, I don’t know why they put it in their food and water. I don’t think you’ll get many definite answers about it. I can guess that, if your cats really like the toys, they drop them in their food and water when they go to eat or drink, and, because cats are notorious for not caring and changing what they’re going to do rapidly, they forget about them and leave them there.
As for the meowing, she probably wants to play. Take it from her if you can, and give it a toss. If she chases after it and brings it back, just play fetch with her for a bit. Cats do play fetch.

My ‘Meezers water their toys also. I have no idea why they do that but I’ll find their toys resting in their water dishes after a hard day of play.

I guess they’re letting the favorite toy to drink….and before she goes to sleep probably putting the toy to sleep too or someways letting it know that play time is over

My cat does the exact same thing and it is because they think they have caught that toy and they are putting in there water bowl cause they think it is food. Even though it was in it their water bowl. The female is walking around with a toy in her mouth because she thinks that she has caught it and she wants to give it as a present to you. This might sound mad but it is true! Hope this helped!
