why dont my cats play with there toys but, they play with trash?
they have tons of different toys. I mean i have a box full! and i Have a cat tear so they can get in the holes and jump on it and play. They have a scratch box with a ball thing they can play with…and a crap ton of toys, AND THEY DONT PLAY WITH IT! They find trash and play with that instead or they will go in the trash can and pull something out and play with that…..why?
try making little foil balls…they will think it’s trash, and yet a very inexpensive toy to bat around

Cats are VERY independent thinkers.

That’s a cat for ya. One of mine plays with socks. She has obnoxious ones that I got her, but she will still get into the hamper to pull out socks, and the occasional shirt sleeve and yes undies…she has tons of toys too…

Cats don’t like to do something just because their human wants them to. They most likely want to be sneaky little gits and play with something they aren’t supposed to just for the rush. It’s like when teenagers sneak out of the house or go and do something they know they aren’t supposed to. Maybe get a spray bottle and spray them when they get near the trash or put a lid on any trash can they can get to. Eventually they will get bored and play with their toys.

For the same reason kids get a bigger kick out of a cardboard box than they do of the toy that came in it.

Cats are like children. You can get them the best toys and they would rather play with the box it came in. I stopped buying cat toys and just left a paper sack out and a few feathers tied to yarn and a small box with a hole cut in it. They have fun all day.

Its tempting to think they’re doing it to spite you… and maybe they are, cats are funny like that.
But the chances are theres just something about the specailly made cat toys they don’t like, or theres something baout things in the rubbish they do like.
Our cats like some of their toys, but they’ll still prefer to play with phone chargers, hands, those seals from round the cap of a frijj or milk bottle… its jsut their way, i suggest stop spending money on pricey toys, get them a cardboard box, something crinkly (e.g. and old crisp packet or some foil) and hang a bit of string or wool from a chair back, they’ll have hours of fun.
