Why is it you can buy $200 worth of cat toys and the cats love the string out of a pair of drawstring pants?

A learning experience! The joy of simplicity. Also try tiny foil balls (not too tiny, don’t want to choke the kitty), water bottle caps, bottle caps. String is not a good idea because many cats will swallow it, though a good sized ribbon (1/2 in) is fine.

& the worlds best toy…. the cat dancer. Curled wire with raffia strung on the end, it makes the cat crazy.

i think the know we spend $$$$ money on it and they do it to piss us off! lol.

For the same reason a kid will play with the cardboard box that a very expensive present came in instead of the toy. They can use their imaginations.

toys are meant to entertain the owners. Most cats just prefer a cap from the milk jug, or a paper bag. My dog has many toys, and prefers his knotted clothesline…lol

Toys that appeal to humans don’t necessarily appeal to cats, and marketing appeals to human notions of fun, since it’s the human who has the money! The best toys that I’ve found for cats are 1) wadded up paper, 2) a laser pointer (they will chase the "dot" on the floor practically to the point of exhaustion), and 3) a short fishing-pole type toy with a string and feathers on the end (even my 15-year-old abyssinian plays with that one!!).

Because they are cats is the best answer I know. My cat has a beautiful new comfy bed but she prefers to sleep on an old towel in my closet…sigh. Cats are mysterious in their habits and play. Mine has a toy basked and plays with most of her stuff but my yarn is her favorite toy!

LoL I’m going to go get a drawstring for my cats right now. Actually my cats really love this cheap wire toy with rolled cardboard at the end. Forget the expensive stuff. Have fun.

Lol i know been there done that ..bought a cat scratching post a cat tree and gazillion catnip mice and balls..ended up making a ball from tinfoil…cellephone ball from package of cigreetes..they like the old box too sleep in and put up rug on the doorway leading to back hall for them to scratch on..not to mention the chasing of dangling shoe laces..or sitting on the sink slapping the dripping water…no cats dont need toys,,but its good to have them just in case

Same reason when you spend $200 on a kid’s Christmas present and the kid plays with the box. They’re both laughing at you for wasting $200.

Get a laser light for them if you really want to see them go nuts. Mine goes nuts over milk caps and the plastic bands used to seal cartons of cottage cheese.

I don’t spend much on cat toys. They seem to be more interested in the crinkly paper it comes in.

Haha. Same with me also. Its quite funny. We have this post with strings hanging from it..but she doesnt find that as amusing as a milk jug cap to swat around the kitchen floor.

its the same for humans. you want the real thing. you enjoy the find and conquer. cats don’t like when the owner is shoving a mouse or toy down their throat. they love to find everything on their own. just like all those clothes in your closet that have somehow found their way onto the ground. the cat found something hanging and had to conquer it.

For the same reason that you can give your cat filtered, de-ionized, designer, top of the line and oh-so-expensive bottled water and they prefer to drink out of a filthy dirty mud puddle in the driveway!

Our cat used to eat silicone caulking
    She hates shrimp
She’ll eat celery (now and then)
