Are there any stores in the US that frequently feature shelter dogs?
I know that at some major pet supply stores like Pet Smart, they have some cats from local animal shelters almost all of the time. I was just wondering if anyone does that sort of thing with dogs, and if so; what stores? I’m writing a report; in case you were wondering. Thanks!
Petsmart, Petco, Pet Supermarket, and smaller locally owned and operated pet supply stores. Primarily, instead of caging on the premises, they provide a facility to hold adopt-a-thons where they advertise, and some bring, dogs up for adoption. Usually, it’s local non-profit rescue groups that have a network of fosters and volunteers to hold adopt-a-thons, often on weekends. They feature bios about the dogs and cats available, in binders and on posters, have many pictures, adoption applications, history and philosophy posted representing their organization, fundraisers, and often some cats in large condos and dogs on leash. We have local NPOs that actually are contracted with the county animal control and their intakes go to the rescues to be rehabilitated (health and mind) prior to adoption.

Well, Petco is another big one. And Petsmart has definitely gotten a boost since they started featuring the Pet Parade. It is where they feature some pets from the shelter each weekend, I believe about 2-3 times a month. But it all depends where you live. Like I like in Arizona, I love the Arizona Humane Society. They are so good my with pup. xP
Hope this helped a bit for your report. Good luck

Some local shelters and rescues may use such stores for weekend meet-n-greets, but I ‘ve never heard of one that would keep the dogs on site for prospective owners to check out. At a meet-n-greet, you bring your dog and the shelter/rescue brings theirs, with volunteers to hold them, and you decide if you want to adopt one of their dogs that likes yours and vice versa. Negotiations ensue.
