Cheaper to buy cat food & litter at pet supplies store?
I usually buy my cats food and litter at the grocery store (meijer, walmart) while i’m buying groceries, but i was wondering if it might be cheaper to buy it at a chain pet supplies store like petsmart or petco… or maybe even a small locally owned pet shop? What would you suggest as the cheapest place to buy my cat’s supplies?
I agree with people who say only top quality foods should be fed to pets. However, what some may not realize is that not all of us can afford this. Times are tough out there.
I buy my pet food at Walmart, but I try to go as high end as I can for my dog. My cats have always eaten and loved Purina Kit n Kaboodle, but if I was starting over, I’d get higher end Purina or Iams for them. I use Iams puppy for my dog and intend to transition over to their new "natural" adult dog food, which is very good per ingredients and quite cheap.
In terms of price, petsmart and petco are more pricy than grocery stores, and groceries are more pricy than Walmart.

you can get better quality foods at a pet store….rule of thumb if you can get it at the grocery store or walmart, it is crap. you will end up paying less in the long run, your cat won’t need as much to feel full and you will save in litter and in vet bills.

Sometimes I think you can catch a break at a place like PetSmart or PetCo. I like PetSmart because they do a lot of work with shelter animals and even have a shelter in many of their stores. Also you will find a wider variety of food, although you should not automatically assume that what you find there is of a higher quality. Some is, some isn’t.

I can’t buy my cat’s food at Wal-Mart, because Wal-Mart doesn’t sell anything that I would feed to my cat. I buy cat food from a local pet store, and I buy litter (pellet fuel) from agricultural supply stores or wherever I can find it. FWIW, PetSmart mails coupons to PetPerks members.

Try WalMart… Same good brands and much cheaper than pet stores.

Walmart’s cat food is perfectly fine.. I’ve seen/had cats live on it for years and they are gorgeous, healthy, energetic and seldom EVER need vet care except for preventive things and shots. Walmart is the cheapest I’ve seen and there’s nothing wrong with it.

We buy litter from walmart but food from pet stores. The food from pet stores is higher quality than what your going to find at the grocery store.
It does cost more to feed your animal(s) good food but it is better for them, keeps them healthier.

We bought cat food food at Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club – Purina Cat Chow (Kitten chow for a year or so.). Our two cats – sisters – lived to be nineteen and twenty.
