Cat Nip Toys causes female cats to go in heat?

I find that cat nip toys always put my female cat in to heat. When she does not have one for a good few months she doesn’t go in to heat for along time until she gets another toy. Does anyone have this too with their cat? Must be the cat nip that triggers her going in heat.

Yes I have found this too. However unless you are a registered breeder I would get her spayed. As cats are extremely clever and will find a way out of your house.

My cat was unable to wait until I took her to stud and managed to open a locked window.

Hi Snowy. I had an entire breeding queen up until a few months ago and never found her to go into heat when playing with her catnip cigar toys.

You really do need to get your girl neutered, unless she’s a registered pedigree breeding queen and you are a registered breeder.

It’s not very good for a female to remain entire (unneutered) if you don’t intend to breed her as repeated heat cycles take a lot out of female cats, they can escape (if they are indoor only cats) very easily while they are in a heat cycle before you even know it and will get pregnant by the local tom, she could get fatal viruses such as cat flu and cat aids by mating with the local unvaccinated tom, could get into territorial fighting and get scratches and bites that could get infected and most of all because she doesn’t get mated the uterus could get infected through repeated strain and stress of calling cycles and develop a fairly common occurring and potentially fatal infection of the uterus called Pyometra if not spotted and treated by a veterinarian with strong antibiotics and an emergency full spay to save their lives and mammary Cancer.

Do your pretty girl a favour and get her spayed. She’ll make a much more happy, relaxed, healthier and longer lived kitty if you do. And, above all else you are helping to reduce unwanted pregnancies, unwanted kittens and space in shelters where cats are surrendered daily in their 100’s and lots get euthanized for no reason at all except they have no homes to go to.

    All the best.
