How do I help my dog to get over the fact that cats dont want to play with him?

Ok, he knows that he is a dog, but i have 2 cats that play alot and he tries to get in the middle of it and it scares them away. I try to have play time and he play’s with the cat toys, pouncing them and jumping around but the cats wont play with us. So i switched to trying to get him to play with his million toys. he wont fetch or chew a bone. Squeak toys are ok. but i have to play with him constantly or else he wont play with them. I’m looking for that perfect toy that will hold his attention. The dog is a toy schnauzer. He is so cute and has facial expressions that would make you laugh so hard. His daddy babies him and sleeps with him at night. He really is spoiled, but he gets depressed when the cats play. he even tries to climb the cat tree. I just need some new ideas as far as toys to get him interested in them. He likes the cat toys better but feathers dont last around him. We dont have the space yet to get him a girlfriend but as soon as that happens we are getting another snzr

Oh, don’t worry about it. The dog will catch on. Either that, or the cats will come around. I have a 120lb St.Bernard/German Shepard mix and I was worrying about this same thing 4 years ago…
Now, the cats love him and he pretty much ignores them.

you should try giving him bones… or anything long lasting that taste good… i give my dog tiny bones with meat fillings and it usually entertains him for awhile and stops him from bugging me and chewing my possesions

There’s not much you can do. He’ll get used to it. He’s pretty lucky though, he’s got his daddy there to pay attention to him and I’m sure he loves that way more than those cats!

Try getting one or two of the toys that you stuff with food or the kind that food rolls out when he rolls the ball. He is looking for playmates and since the cats live with him they are the obvious choice to him. Try to see if there is a dog park in your area or start a dog play date system with other small dog owners in your area.
