How harmfull are laser toys to cats and dogs?
I bought a laser pet toy for for my dog and cat. Was told it was good exercise for indoor pets. But the warnig on the back of package says not to shine in eyes, can be harmfull. Then why do they sell them as its hard when your shining the light on floor or wall etc, because as the pet chases and jumps for it is sometimes impossible to miss their eyes. I have friends that let their children play with their pets with the laser light, and I know they are not careful even shining them in each others eyes.
What freakin’ BS.
Dogs that are prone to neurotic behavior are the ones that get neurotic behaviors IF their owners allow the behavior to become neurotic.
Maybe my dogs aren’t as smart as others but at my house I’m the human with the thumb operating the button.
I don’t know about the lasers in the eyes but that’s why I have no problem keeping it from becoming an obsession.

It is just saying that when your playing with them, don’t hold it onto their eyes for an extended time. If it quickly passes their eyes, it will be fine. Just don’t hold it on their eyes for a long time.

They are ridiculous and you will end up with the obsessive "shadow chasing" which is an ordeal to get them out of. You can end up with the dog scratching a hole in the wall / floor trying to get to the light.
So it is not only the danger to the eyes that is a nuisance.
Google it and see… here’s one.

can cause changes in brain where they react to anything that shines. While working at the humane society I saw a 8 yr. old boxer that went crazy every time something sparkled including water in sunlight. The previous owner had him chasing a laser since he was a puppy. This was the most unadoptable dog at the shelter due to his neurotic behavior & inability to focus on anything other than what was shinny. The staff worked with him over a year until a man came to adopt a special needs dog-

Don’t worry it wont hurt them if it’s only in their eyes for half a second.
