What are some easy Home made Toys for Cats?

Tear off a long piece of aluminum foil and smoosh it into a ball (shiny side out so it catches the light)–it’s lightweight enough to go rolling off when the cat taps it, the little facets will catch the light keeping the cat’s attention, you can stick catnip inside if you want to (before you crunch it into a ball) but you don’t have to, since most of us can’t form a perfectly round ball out of it the thing usually won’t roll in straight lines so will go veering off in some pretty strange angles unanticipated by the cat, and when you inadvertenly step on it or it rolls under the sofa or something, you can just make a new one.

Also not exactly a toy but a fun thing for cats is paper bags and plastic grocery bags that make such a nice crunchy sound.

Also cardboard boxes. You can even get a few different shaped boxes, cut cat doorways in them, tape a doorway to a doorway in different boxes and build a sort of cat fun house. If the cats scratch it up or whatever, no big deal.

And this one is cruel for the bugs but fun for cats. Buy a couple of mature crickets (the ones that actually crick) and put them in a clean, dry 2 liter soda bottle–the clear bottles are best so the cats can see inside. Screw on the top and poke holes into the plastic bottle so the crickets will have air. Set the bottle on it’s side and leave it there (not in the sun, somewhere flat with not much furniture and stuff to get in the way). When the crickets start to crick the cats will tack down the sound and see the bugs trying to climb up the round sides but slides around and will try to jump on the bottle, will push the bottle around, etc. But after a while, remove the bottle and set it somewhere the cats cannot get to it, put a bit of vegetable food in there for the crickets, a bit of water (only a little so they don’t drown) and let them rest so they can have more fun tomorrow. The crickets won’t live a heck of a long time, maybe a week, but you can get more and a new bottle too. I suppose you could do this with any sizeable bug you can catch (but I can get feeder crickets from the pet store so I use them).

My male cat likes wrestling the cardboard middles of toilet paper and towel paper rolls–he tears them apart.

I also give the cats loofa things–I get new ones, rinse them in plain water, let them dry and give them to the cats. The cats wrestle them, dig their claws into the loofah, bite the loofah, tear it up. I kind of think it helps to keep their teeth clean. You just have to vacuum more often.

And like someone else already said, those milk bottle plastic tearoff rings.

One of our cats like hair scrunchies and the elastic hair bands–she plays fetch with us with them.
