Why do cats never play with toys, just the packages it comes in?
My cat refuses toys, catnip, jingles, sparkling balls, yarn, and all the fun kitty toys- yet when I buy a gallon of milk he runs in the kitchen dives onto the counter and steals the wrap ring you peel off the milk. Then he skitters away and entertains himself for hours or until he looses it under the couch. Even if I throw it away he still gets it. The dog stands on the foot pedestal while he reaches in and grabs it out and I find it that night wrap up in my hair with him in mid leap. Why is it that no matter what you buy a cat, the paper bags and stuff you call junk, is always the ultimate toy?
That’s one thing cats and toddlers have in common. Toddlers ignore the toys, but love playing with the boxes.
The wrap ring is lighter than his other toys, so he can whack it further and it moves faster. He probably enjoys the chase a lot. He might enjoy a cat fishing rod. This is a small plastic fishing rod with a small pom-pom on the end where the hook is supposed to be. You just flick the rod and the pompom goes flying, then you just reel in the line… with cat chasing and attaching itself to the pompom. I’ve caught quite a few hefty sized moggies with mine.

My older cat loves cat nip and cat treats but my younger cat doesnt. She prefers to play fetch when the dog is asleep. you throw her little fuzzy ball and she brings it back.

I’ve always said cats are cheap dates. They can entertain themselves with pretty much anything. They love empty boxes too. I can’t explain why cats do things.

Did you really expect your pet cat to do what you want him to do?
Try buying him a box, he’d most probably get bored it that came empty..

It’s true — and the same with kids. Once you have a child, and have had or have a cat, you realize how many similarities there are. We always figure a cat is about like a two year old…
